How often do the international teams play?

We attend one game or tournament per year. We often play Canada in the 49th Parallel Cup.

What are steps I can take to join the team?

The first step is to learn the game of Aussie Rules at a local USAFL Club. Once your club coach thinks you are ready to participate in the International Program you will be invited to attend a Training Camp so the coaches can see you in action. Coaches attend many USAFL games and tournaments during the year to watch players in action as part of developing a squad.

Is there a Reserves or National Development team?

Yes, we always aim to have a development team as part of the pathway into the National Team. This helps with selection of future players, gives players a taste of the level of international competition, and helps everyone improve their skills.

How does the International Program help develop player skills?

As part of the International Program Football Department, we have a skills development function. The aim is to give players skill development activities that one can do on their own or with their club teammates. For instance, we ask every player to film themselves kicking, handballing, and bouncing the ball. A coach then reviews the footage and gives direct coaching advice to each player on ways to improve their skills.
