The Wombats were founded in 2017. Originally called the Wisconsin Indomitable Warriors. Since hardly anyone could pronounce the word ‘indomitable’, let alone spell it, after our first season we decided that we would rename the team. We gathered an online poll with several options, and Wisconsin Wombats won out. We wanted the name to be Wisconsin to include surrounding areas in the state. The wombat, beyond the obvious alliterative Aussie connection, is a great representative of our hardy team’s ability to dig deep. The Milwaukee Bombers have helped tremendously when it comes to club development. Although we have never had enough members for a full women’s squad, we have always had strong female leadership, particularly from our first coach, former president, and co-founder Nafla Poff and our former president and social media manager Caitlin “Bones” Monroe.
