The Portland club was founded in 2003. Originally named the Portland Power after a club member acquired some Power jumpers. We decided on a name change and picked the Portland Steelheads in 2011 – we wanted to have a unique name that better represented the city of Portland. Club members suggested potential names, then voted on top 5. The Sockeyes was chosen when the women’s team was founded due to similarity and connection with Steelheads, species of salmon commonly found in the region.
